PS Plus Premium Revives “Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare” for Next-Gen Play on PS5 and PS4

Sony’s PS Plus Premium service is set to rejuvenate the classic survival horror experience with the reintroduction of “Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare” to its library. Starting from the 16th of April, 2024, members of the highest subscription tier can dive back into the eerie world of this PS1 classic on their PS5 and PS4 consoles.

This move comes in tandem with the release of the much-anticipated PS5 reboot of “Alone in the Dark,” aiming to satisfy long-time fans and newcomers with a blend of nostalgia and modern gameplay enhancements. The inclusion of “Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare” is accompanied by the arrival of other retro titles such as “MediEvil” and “Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire,” all scheduled for release on the same day.

As typical with releases under PS Plus Premium, “The New Nightmare” will feature several quality-of-life upgrades to enhance player experience. These include save states, rewind capabilities, video filters, and possibly a new Trophy list to challenge achievement hunters, although this latter addition is not confirmed for third-party releases.

Originally launched in 2001, “Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare” received mixed reviews, generally scoring in the 6 to 7 out of 10 range. Despite its initial lukewarm reception and a subsequent PS2 release in Europe, the version made available on PS Plus Premium will remain faithful to its PS1 roots.

As “Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare” makes its return nearly 23 years after its debut, it invites a new generation to experience its chilling narrative and gameplay. Sony encourages feedback and participation in the community, inviting players to share their experiences and anticipation in the comments section below.
