Preview Release of Microsoft Office LTSC 2024 Now Available for Both Windows and Mac Users

Microsoft has launched the preview of its latest Office LTSC 2024, a volume-licensed, perpetual version tailored for commercial use on both Windows and macOS platforms. This release caters specifically to organizations requiring long-term, stable software deployments without frequent updates.

The new Microsoft Office Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) 2024 commercial preview maintains the same licensing terms as its predecessor, Office LTSC 2021. Designed for devices in environments where updates are impractical—such as those without internet access or in use with critical infrastructure like medical systems—this version promises continuity and reliability.

Unveiled initially in March, Office LTSC 2024 prunes some features available in the more dynamic Microsoft 365 Apps suite, focusing instead on refining functionalities introduced in earlier versions. Enhancements spotlighted in this release include heightened performance, robust security measures, and enhanced accessibility across all applications. Users will find new conveniences in Outlook, such as improved search functions and more streamlined meeting setups, alongside a suite of advanced Excel tools like Dynamic Charts and Arrays.

Noteworthy changes also include the decoupling of Microsoft Publisher and the Microsoft Teams app from the Office bundle. Both applications will see changes in availability, with Publisher being phased out and Teams offered separately.

Included in the preview are several key components:

  • Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2024, which features core applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and Access.
  • Microsoft Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2024, comprising Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.
  • Upgrades to Microsoft Project Professional 2024 and Microsoft Visio Professional 2024 are also part of the preview, reflecting Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive business solutions.

Microsoft asserts that the Office LTSC 2024 suite will incorporate select new features already seen in Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, alongside proven elements from past releases. Supported under the Fixed Lifecycle Policy for five years, this release will coincide with Windows 11 LTSC, enhancing compatibility and support for enterprise users.

The company has reiterated its commitment to supporting mixed software environments, allowing the deployment of both Office LTSC and Microsoft 365 Apps across different devices within the same organization. This flexibility is facilitated by common deployment tools, including Click-to-Run for Windows and Apple Package format for Mac, ensuring a seamless integration akin to the deployment processes used for Office LTSC 2021.

For those interested in adopting the preview, detailed guidance on installation and activation for both Windows and Mac platforms is readily accessible online, providing step-by-step assistance to ensure a smooth setup process.

Later this year, Microsoft plans to release Office 2024, an on-premises suite aimed at home users, which will also follow the traditional one-time purchase model with five years of support, ensuring users receive both value and sustained performance from their software investment.
