North Dakota Athletes Prepare for Paralympic Trials

As the Paralympic Games in Paris draw near, two exceptional athletes from North Dakota are gearing up for the U.S. Paralympic Track and Field trials in Miramar, Florida. Isabelle Hogness and Sam Winter, both high school athletes, are ready to showcase their talents on a national platform.

Hogness, a senior at Horace High School, has spina bifida and excels as a wheeled racer in the T54 classification. Her impressive performances have earned her a spot in the national team trials, where she will compete in the 100m, 400m, and 800m events. Despite facing challenges, Hogness has shown exceptional determination and skill, making her a standout competitor.

Winter, a recent homeschool graduate representing Des-Lacs Burlington/Berthold, competes as an ambulatory athlete in the T36 classification. Despite cerebral palsy resulting from a stroke at birth, Winter will be showcasing his talents in the 100m, 400m, long jump, and shot put events at the U.S. National Trials. His resilience and passion for the sport have been inspirational to many.

Both athletes have been training with the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports group, demonstrating remarkable dedication and perseverance in pursuing their athletic dreams. As they prepare for the national trials, Hogness and Winter are eager for the opportunity to compete at the highest level and challenge themselves further.

Beyond the trials, both athletes have bright futures ahead. Hogness is considering collegiate wheelchair racing programs, while Winter continues to excel in various para sports.
