Latest update on the Ukraine-Russia conflict: Moscow promises retaliation against US following missile strike on Crimea

US State Department Denounces Russian Claims of US Involvement in Strikes on Crimea

The US state department has dismissed Russian claims that the US was behind yesterday’s strikes in Crimea as “ridiculous” and “hyperbolic”. According to officials, four people were killed and around 150 more were injured in the attack as missile debris landed on a beach in Sevastopol in occupied Crimea.

Russia’s defence ministry asserted that the missiles used in the attack were US-supplied ATACMS missiles, and they further claimed that US specialists had programmed them. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov warned that there would be consequences for the US if Russian civilians continue to be killed in such attacks.

During a briefing at the US state department, spokesperson Matthew Miller refuted Russia’s claims, labeling them as unfounded and wrong. He pointed out that Russia has a history of making baseless accusations, citing a past incident where they blamed the US for a terror attack in Moscow despite being warned about it.

Miller expressed regret over civilian casualties in the ongoing war and reiterated the US’s support for providing weapons to Ukraine to defend its sovereign territory against aggression, including in Crimea. He called on Russia to end its occupation of Ukrainian territory and cease attacks on civilians to bring an end to the suffering caused by the conflict.

As tensions continue to rise between the US and Russia over the situation in Crimea, the international community watches closely for any further developments in this volatile region.
