Russia Responds to Joe Biden’s Gaffes at NATO Summit
Title: Russia Mocks Biden’s Gaffes at NATO Summit
At the recent NATO summit, President Joe Biden faced criticism and mockery from Russia after a series of gaffes that were caught on camera and broadcasted widely. During the summit, Biden mistakenly introduced the Ukrainian president as “President Putin” before correcting himself and later mixed up the names of Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Russian state TV seized the opportunity to portray the 81-year-old president as a senile old man, with videos of his mistakes being prominently featured in news bulletins in Russia. Kremlin spokesperson dismissed Biden’s errors as “slips of the tongue,” while a representative of Russia’s foreign ministry joked that the US president was a “pro-Russian candidate being controlled by the Kremlin.”
Maria Zakharova, a Kremlin spokesperson, used Biden’s gaffes to mock US accusations of Russian interference in American politics. She questioned whether Biden, who seems to have trouble recalling basic details, is the one signing off on billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine.
Despite the criticism from Russia, some European leaders like German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof stood by Biden, attributing his mistakes to mere slips of the tongue.
Biden, who has a history of overcoming a childhood stutter, has faced criticism for his verbal slip-ups throughout his political career. He has assured the public that his health is in good condition and that he is willing to undergo further neurological exams to address concerns about his mental acuity if recommended by his doctors.
In response to the criticism, Biden stated, “The only thing age does, it creates a little bit of wisdom if you pay attention.”
