Kennesaw State University Engineering Team Takes Third Place at International Design Competition in Montreal
The Kennesaw State University engineering senior design team has recently made a mark on the global stage by securing a third-place finish at the Industrial and Systems Engineering Capstone Senior Design Project competition in Montreal. The competition, hosted by the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers in May, saw the team of Dalton Beasley, Dyson Beasley, Tristan McMichael, and Ryan Waltman showcase their project focused on increasing throughput on a tube mill.
Their project, which aimed to improve the marble tube mill used for industrial applications, received high praise and exceeded all project goals. The team partnered with mining and manufacturing company Imerys in Marble Hill, Georgia, to implement their recommendations, which are currently being put into practice.
The success of the senior design team extends beyond this international recognition, as they had previously won first place at the KSU Senior Design Expo in Fall 2023. This achievement marked a significant milestone for the industrial engineering program at Kennesaw State University.
The team members credit their alma mater for providing them with the resources and connections needed to excel in the field of industrial engineering. Post-graduation, the team members have secured promising job opportunities, with Dalton and Dyson Beasley joining Imerys as process engineers, Waltman pursuing a career as a data analyst at HD Supply, and McMichael exploring opportunities in the nuclear industry.
Reflecting on their time at Kennesaw State, the team expressed gratitude for the support and opportunities for growth provided by the university. They highlighted the mentorship of their professors and the sense of community within the industrial engineering department as key factors in their success.
The advisors for the project, Robert Keyser and Awatef Ergai, praised the team for their dedication and successful application of research in a real-world setting. The team’s accomplishments serve as a testament to the quality of education and practical experience offered by Kennesaw State University in preparing students for successful careers in industrial engineering.
