Israeli airstrike targets Baniyas in Syria, according to Syrian state news

Israeli Airstrike in Baniyas Targets Iranian Presence, Kills Hezbollah Members

Israel Launches Airstrike in Western Syria, Two Hezbollah Members Killed

In a dramatic development in the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Syria’s news agency reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted a position near the coastal city of Baniyas in western Syria. The strike, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, coincided with the arrival of two Iranian ships at the port of Latakia.

According to SANA, the strike resulted in material damage to the targeted area, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirming that it was the third Israeli attack on Baniyas this year. The organization also reported that two Iranian military advisors were present in the area at the time of the attack, which resulted in a significant fire in coastal buildings, including one linked to air defense.

Tragically, two individuals believed to be members of the Lebanese Hezbollah were killed in a separate drone attack on a car near a military checkpoint on the Damascus-Beirut highway. The vehicle, belonging to Hezbollah, was completely incinerated, with the victims’ bodies charred inside, as reported by the SOHR.

These recent incidents add to the tensions between Israel and Iran, with Israeli officials expressing determination to prevent Iran from expanding its foothold in Syria. The region has been volatile since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, with Israel frequently conducting airstrikes on targets associated with the Assad regime and Iranian-backed groups.

Despite the frequency of these attacks, Israel has rarely issued comments on the matter, and tensions continue to escalate in the region as Hezbollah and Hamas, both supported by Iran, target Israel with rocket attacks. The situation remains fluid, with the international community closely watching the developments in the Middle East.
