Ishan Kishan explains reasons for absence from domestic cricket and aims for national team comeback
India’s wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been at the center of attention recently after facing criticism for not participating in domestic cricket following a break from international cricket last December. Former coach Rahul Dravid suggested that Kishan should make a comeback to the Indian team by performing well in domestic matches.
Kishan has now opened up about his reasons for taking breaks and his struggles during his time away from the national squad. He explained, “I took a break, and I think it was normal. There is a rule that if you want to make a comeback, you must perform in domestic cricket. It is as simple as that. Now, it was very different for me to play domestic cricket as it was not making any sense.”
Expressing his frustration, Kishan highlighted the difficulties of not getting enough playing time for the Indian team despite performing well. He shared, “It was depressing. Today I don’t want to say that everything was fine. It was not easy for me at all. You go through a lot.”
Despite missing out on the South Africa tour and the Ranji Trophy, Kishan made his return to cricket during the Indian Premier League earlier this year, playing for Mumbai Indians. However, his performance did not meet his expectations as he scored 320 runs from 14 innings.
Now, with the domestic season approaching, Kishan is determined to prove his capabilities and earn his place back in the national team. The 25-year-old is focused on establishing himself in all three formats of the game despite recent exclusions.
Kishan’s record shows promise, with impressive performances in both Test and white-ball cricket. He has scored runs consistently in ODIs and T20Is, with a century and several fifties to his name. As he gears up for the upcoming domestic season, all eyes will be on Kishan as he aims to reclaim his spot in the Indian team.
