India’s Rising Shuttlers Set to Take Spotlight in US Open 2024

New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): As the spotlight shines on India’s star badminton players preparing for the upcoming Paris Olympics, it’s time for the rising talents to make an impact. Gayatri Gopichand, Treesa Jolly, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Malvika Bansod are set to take the stage at the US Open 2024 badminton tournament in Texas.

While two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and world championship medallists Chirag Shetty/Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, HS Prannoy, and Lakshya Sen have opted to skip the BWF Super 300 tournament, the focus now shifts to the young guns.

Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, ranked 24th in badminton, are seeded second in women’s doubles at the US Open. The Commonwealth Games bronze medallists will be aiming for their first BWF title since their victory at the Odisha Open two and a half years ago.

Recently, the Indian duo impressed at the Singapore Open, reaching the semi-finals of a BWF Super 750 tournament. They secured remarkable wins over top opponents, including All England champions and Olympic bronze medallists.

Priyanshu Rajawat, a member of India’s historic 2022 Thomas Cup-winning team, will also be a player to watch in the men’s singles category. Ranked 40th globally, he is seeded eighth and will face Jan Louda of Czechia in the opening round.

In the absence of PV Sindhu, Malvika Bansod and Tanya Hemanth will lead the charge in women’s singles. With Malvika ranked 49th and Tanya 73rd in the world, the Indian contingent is ready to make its mark at the US Open.

The India squad includes Ayush Shetty, Sankar Subramanian, Malvika Bansod, Tanya Hemanth, Krishna Prasad Garaga, Sai Pratheek K, Treesa Jolly, Gayatri Gopichand, Rohan Kapoor, and Ruthvika Gadde.
