It’s finally here — the 2022 midterm elections.
Voters in the Bay State will head to the polls on Tuesday to choose some of their next elected officials, including a new Massachusetts governor.
Massachusetts voters also have four ballot questions to decide on, each of which could have a significant impact on the state.
Here’s what you need to know ahead of election day:
Voting times
Voting hours on Tuesday are from 7am to 8pm in communities across the Commonwealth. If you are in the queue no later than 20.00 you have the right to vote.
Where to vote
One polling station is allocated to each district of the Commonwealth. When you registered to vote, you should have received a message that included the polling station assigned to your district.
In Massachusetts, town polling places are decided by selectmen and towns are appointed by city councils.
If you are voting in person, you must go to your designated polling station. If you’re not sure where it is, the state has an online tool that lets you enter your address to learn your polling place. You can find that tool here.

What are the ballot questions?
In addition to choosing candidates, Massachusetts voters face four ballot questions about the 2022 midterms. NBC10 Boston has covered the potential impact of the four questions, which you can learn more about by clicking on each link.

Expectations of turnout
Massachusetts officials don’t think there is “tremendous enthusiasm” for this year’s general election in the Bay State.
Commonwealth Secretary William Galvin said the state sent over 1.1 million postal ballots in response to requests for them, and so far 776,000 have been received back by the state. Election officials expect some of the outstanding mail-in ballots to still come in, but not all.
About 187,000 people in Massachusetts voted in person early, according to Galvin, who said his best guess for total turnout in this election is 2.2 million. That is less than the 2.7 million ballots cast in 2018.
