On the one hand, common citizens are under the grip of inflation, on the other hand, the financial budget of common people is collapsing due to the continuous increase in petrol and diesel prices. It is becoming more and more difficult for common citizens to use petrol and diesel vehicles. The municipality is trying to introduce electric charging stations to provide relief to the citizens who have been in financial crisis for the past two years due to Corona. However, the municipality has issued a first notice to the power grid company due to the delay in the work and a second notice will be issued to the company due to the delay in the work, said senior municipal officials.

On the one hand, while the domestic gas prices are also increasing, on the other hand citizens are suffering from the constant increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, while the alternative of electric vehicles has come to the fore. The municipality will set up a total of 20 charging stations in the city and the Jewel of Charging Station in Navi Mumbai has been completed. But this charging station is only in name and decoration. The municipality also started testing charging stations on a pilot basis. The charging station is not yet in service for the general public. In view of the environment, the center and states have announced an electric vehicle policy and there is an exemption for purchase of electric vehicles. The municipality has also decided to purchase electric vehicles for officials. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to set up 20 Charging stations in cities under FAME 2 to improve environment. The municipality has also issued a notice to the Power Grid Corporation for the delay in the work. Although the first charging station has arrived at the Jewel of Navi Mumbai, it’s just for show. There are 20 such charging stations in the city and the charging stations are only available on paper. So the contractor is going to set up cafeteria and washroom at twenty charging stations.
6 units will be installed at each charging station. Currently, 2 units have been installed at Jewel’s charging station in Navi Mumbai. The already loss-making transport sector is also suffering due to hike in petrol and diesel prices. 180 buses have entered the transport fleet under Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Central Government. In the city, there are virtually no charging stations for electric vehicle use. A deadline of March 31, 2023 has been given to set up 20 charging stations and since none of the charging stations has been operational in the last 5 months, it has issued a second notice and warned of cancellation of the contract with the company.

Power Grid Company for 20 electric charging stations
Even after giving the task order on 31 March 2022, not a single charging station has been commissioned in 5 months. Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar informed that the deadline for setting up the charging station is 31 March 2023, the charging station is still on paper.
