Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with an alleged attack on a GAA official in Co Longford.
The pair, a man and a woman, were being questioned over the June 11 incident in which a man in his 50s was allegedly attacked by a gang of youths within the boundaries of Michael Fay Park in Longford town.
The incident happened before a football match between Longford Slashers and Mostrim. It is understood the victim was approached by a group of young men after trying to disperse them from a stand in the ground before the match.
He was then attacked, with non-life threatening injuries, before the group fled the scene.
Gardaí have made progress with the investigation in recent days, arresting two teenage suspects.
“Gardaí attended an attack which occurred at approximately 5.35pm on 11 June 2022 in the Farneyhogan area of Longford,” a Garda spokesman said. “A man in his 50s was treated for non-life threatening injuries following this incident.
“Two youths, a male and a female who were both in their teens, were arrested in connection with this incident and have since been released without charge pending the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
