HYDERABAD—The Sindh High Court has issued contempt notices to Sindh Director General Health, Deputy Commissioner Dadu, District Health Officer Dadu and a Medical Superintendent for allegedly failing to provide benefits to flood-affected people.

The notice was issued on a contempt plea filed by advocate Altaf Sachal Awan. The lawyer pointed out that on September 13 the SHC had directed the alleged contestants to set up tent cities along with medical camps, provide rations, mosquito nets and other necessary facilities. He added that the court had asked the alleged contestants to drain water from the flooded towns and villages of Dadu.

SHC Sindh directed Director General Health to ensure 24-hour availability of ambulances in relief camps. The Sindh Child Protection Department, the Sindh Commission on the Status of Women and the National Commission on Human Rights were asked to come together for the protection of children and women.

SSP Dadu was directed to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of the people living in the camp. However, the lawyer claimed that the court order was not obeyed in complete disobedience. Awan said that the authorities are not stopping the spread of malaria and dengue. After hearing the petitioner’s arguments, the SHC put the respondents on notice for September 27.
