Mumbai: These government schools may be closed in Maharashtra, where the number of students is less than 20. There are plans to house these students in nearby schools. According to sources, the school education department has given important instructions to the state education commissioner, education director in this regard. Under it, the state is asked to review the number of schools with zero to 20 students.
However, the decision is likely to face massive protests from teachers and parents in rural areas. In 2017 also, during the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government in the state, it was decided to close 3,314 schools with 0 to 20 students.
Teachers and parents protested in rural areas
Even during the Mahavikash Aghadi government, a small number of schools were ordered to be closed. However, the teachers and parents of rural areas are still strongly opposed to this decision of the government. Then the matter goes to the freezer. But now after the coming of the new government, the education department has started reviewing it again.
Know what the criteria are?
According to the decision of the education department, the school should be located at a distance of one kilometer for classes I to V and three kilometers for classes VI to VIII. Now it remains to be seen whether schools with fewer students will be closed or the decision will be opposed.
