ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Public Accounts Committee was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Noore Alam Khan on Tuesday. The committee took notice of the illegal purchase of the house of the chairman of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority and sought his reply.
Audit officials told the committee that the house bought for the Chairman Nuclear Regulatory Authority was worth Rs 77.8 million and PPRA rules were violated in its purchase. He said the house was bought without advertising.
The Public Accounts Committee asked how houses can be bought using this method. It is okay to rent a house, who gave permission to buy? Burgess Tahir, a member of the committee, raised the question under whose direction this rule was made. The chairman told the PNRA committee that the DGSPD approved these matters. He said, the committee regularly visited the house and evaluated it.
In response to this, Chairman Nur Alam Khan said, Chairman, how are you defending this, here the rules of the country are not yours.
Burgess Tahir, a member of the committee, demanded to take responsibility for the incident. Ahmed Hossain Dehar, a member of the committee, said that the committee which has given the permission should also see what authority the permission has been given.
The chairman of the Public Accounts Committee while giving instructions said that no matter which ministry the irregularities occur, the secretaries will be responsible and they should be held accountable.
