New Delhi: Former Punjab chief minister and Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) chief Captain Amarinder Singh met party national president JP Nadda on Monday before joining the BJP.

According to sources, in the presence of senior BJP leaders, Amarinder Singh will not only join the party but also merge his newly formed party PLC with the ruling party at the Centre.

After Captain Amarinder Singh abruptly resigned as Chief Minister last year, he left the Congress and formed the PLC. PLC contested the assembly elections in alliance with BJP and Shiromani Akal Dal (United) led by Sukhdev Singh Dhendsa. However, none of its candidates could win and Amarinder Singh himself was defeated from his stronghold Patiala seat.

PLC spokesperson Preet Pal Singh Baliwal had earlier said that Amarinder Singh will join the party in Delhi on Monday in the presence of senior BJP leaders. Amarinder Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah after returning from London recently after a spinal surgery.

After his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on September 12, Captain Amarinder Singh said they discussed various issues related to national security, increasing cases of narcotics and terrorism in Punjab and future road map for all-round development of the state. But it was a very productive discussion. Two-time chief minister Amarinder Singh is a scion of the Patiala royal family.
