KARACHI: Following the approval of the federal government, the federal interior ministry has announced an amnesty scheme for foreigners residing in Pakistan despite the expiry of their visas.

According to media reports, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced an amnesty scheme for foreigners residing in Pakistan despite the expiry of their visas. Under this scheme, foreigners holding visas can leave Pakistan till December 31.

Under the scheme, these foreign overstayers will be exempted from overstay charges, fines till December 31, overstayers can obtain exit permits from Pakistan’s online visa system portal.

Under the amnesty scheme, overstaying Indian and Somali nationals have to apply to the Ministry of Home Affairs for an exit permit.

Sources say that while no legal action will be taken against those who have benefited from the amnesty scheme, action should be taken against overstayers after September 31 and these people will be blacklisted from coming to Pakistan.
