Yabatmal : In the Maregaon taluk of the district suicides have been happening for the last two years due to various reasons. Similarly, five people have committed suicide in the Taluk in the last three days, raising concerns. After Haridas Tonpe (48) of Shivani (Dhobe) taluk committed suicide by consuming poison on Tuesday morning, an unmarried youth from Rameswar in taluk ended his life by consuming pesticides. The name of the youth who committed suicide is Sachin Subhash Bodekar (28).

This is the fifth suicide in Maregaon taluk in last five days. Earlier on Friday, Sachin Vasudev Bothale (32), R. Saturday Gajanan Narayan Musle (21), Res. Narsala was hanged, while Totaram Angat Chincholkar (45), Rt. Dandgaon ended the journey by consuming poison. The taluka has been shaken by continuous suicides. Since the past two years, suicides have been happening continuously in the taluka, there is anger among the citizens because the administration, public representatives and ministers have not taken any concrete measures.

Maregaon is now known as suicide taluka. Four to five suicides occur here every week. These suicides increase during festivals and celebrations. Everyone’s suicide cause, situation is different. Interestingly, suicide rates are highest among the 18 to 25 and 45 to 60 age group. Demands have been made to find out the psychological reasons behind these suicides.
