Mumbai: The High Court has warned the developer that despite Supreme Court and High Court stays, a developer who continues to construct a building next to a plot reserved for a sports stadium will face the same situation as Supertech’s illegal twin towers in Noida.

A public interest litigation has claimed that a real estate developer has encroached on land reserved for a playground in Khar. Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Nia. Makrand Karnik’s bench warned the developer while hearing the petition. The court had last week appointed an architect to inspect the site where the developer had started construction in violation of a 1995 Supreme Court order and submitted a report on the extent of construction.

On Tuesday, the architect told the court that he has submitted the report. The court fixed September 20 as the next date of hearing on the petition. Counsel appearing for the developer requested the court to lift the stay on construction till the demarcation of the land is completed. But the court rejected it. ‘Wait… you have to deal with a situation like Supertech,’ said the chief. Dr. Dutta.

Supertech’s twin towers in Noida, near New Delhi, were demolished on August 28 using explosives on the orders of the Supreme Court. The twin towers Apex (32 storeys) and Seyen (29 storeys) were built illegally.
