ISLAMABAD: Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan’s telethon campaign for flood victims raised Rs 5.5 billion in two-and-a-half hours.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s telethon campaign was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi, former cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq, actress Atika Odhu, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Javed Sheikh, Shan Shaheed, writer Khalil and other politicians, artists and well-known personalities. Rehman Qamar, singer Salman Ahmed, Abrarul Haque and others.
In the speech, Imran Khan said, a big test is going on in the country at this time, the whole country is affected due to floods, so we have decided that the whole country should face the mill cross test.
Imran Khan said, as a nation we have to help the flood victims, join our youth volunteer force and help the victims.
He said, we are setting up a control room through which the volunteers will be directed so that the volunteers can reach out to the affected people.
The former prime minister said that the loss of life was reported to be over 1,000, while it was estimated financially that the flood caused more than 1,000 billion in damages.
Imran Khan said that he has seen helping the victims of the 2010 floods and even in this difficult time the entire nation is with the flood victims and will give them full support.
He said, whatever funds are available will be spent under the leadership of Sania Nishtar. Our aim is that the funds collected will be spent on the flood victims.
In the telethon campaign, more than 5000 crore rupees were collected in just two and a half hours.
As always, ARY is at the forefront of serving Pakistan and ARY Network President and CEO Salman Iqbal announced a donation of Rs.3 crore.
Senior journalist Sabir Shakir also announced aid of five lakh taka for the flood victims and said, the situation is not good but I am getting my share, because ARY News is closed, the stoves of 4,000 families are going out.
PTI leader Ali Zaidi’s family announced a donation of Rs 10 lakh, his 9-year-old niece donated Rs 50,000, while his friends in the US announced a donation of $50,000.
Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shehryar Afridi also announced Rs.
An overseas Pakistani donated Rs 10 lakh without disclosing his name, while a Pakistani from America announced a donation of Rs 22 crore.
Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Tanveer Ilyas announced Rs 30 million in aid for flood victims, British-born Pakistani boxer Amir Khan also announced Rs 5 million in aid.
During Imran Khan’s telethon campaign, another foreign Pakistani donated Rs 50 lakh for the flood victims.
A Pakistani citizen canceled his retirement program and announced to donate Rs 10 lakh to the flood victims.
Pakistani citizen Adnan Asad gave two hundred and five million aid to flood victims, Imran Khan said Adnan Asad is my classmate, election commission called him for foreign funding.
At the end of the telethon campaign, renowned religious scholar Tariq Jameel prayed that Allah averts this calamity soon and that the damage caused by this flood can be repaired soon.
