PEMRA’s notification of Islamabad High Court’s ban on live telecast of Imran Khan’s speech has been postponed till September 5.
Web Desk: Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Athar Minullah ordered the suspension of Pemra’s order while hearing a plea against the ban imposed by Pemra on live telecast of Imran Khan’s speech.
During the hearing, Barrister Ali Zafar, Faisal Chowdhury and others appeared in the court, Barrister Ali Zafar said that Imran Khan wants to hold a telethon for the flood victims in the country, the telethon will raise a lot of money for the flood victims.
On the orders of the court, the lawyers read out the transcript of Imran Khan’s speech, in which the Chief Justice asked the lawyer, do you defend Imran Khan’s speech? Can judges be threatened in a given manner? With the way human rights have been violated in three years, I say with a very heavy heart, there was no hope of threatening the Judiciary.
He said, it is very sad that the present government is doing what is happening for the last three years, a woman judge was threatened, it was said that they will not release the judge, did the party leader tell his followers not to release? Women judges? Nothing was said about me, but the lady judge was threatened.
The Chief Justice said torture is unforgivable, threatening a woman judge is even more unforgivable, Shahbaz Gul’s fair trial was disputed in the whole controversy, torture is a different matter, you have disputed that too.
The lawyer said that Imran Khan has received a show cause notice for his statement, a case has also been filed against Imran Khan.
Advocate Faisal Chowdhury said, I have seen signs of torture on Shahbaz Gul. Barrister Ali Zafar said, Pemra says the channel has not adopted time delay policy.
The Chief Justice said, show all the channels without delay? Then the responsibility falls on the news channels, meaning not live.
Barrister Ali Zafar said there is a 12-second delay to censor someone who says the wrong thing.
The Chief Justice said, then action should be taken against the news channels, unless someone is found guilty, such a ban cannot be imposed, the culture of our police station is torture, the spirit that the opposition brings and if it is in the government, it speaks. If you come and speak, the situation is different. , this nation still divided, needs to unite.
Barrister Ali Zafar said that PEMRA banned Imran Khan’s live speech forever if the channels did not delay the time.
Chief Justice Athar Manullah said, when executives are in government, they forget that there is torture in the police station, till date no executive officer has seen torture as an issue.
After hearing the arguments of the lawyers, the court said that Pemra had exceeded its authority by banning Imran Khan’s speech and there was no good reason to ban Imran Khan’s speech in the present circumstances.
The court adjourned the hearing on the above measures till September 5.
