KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a sit-in outside the Election Commission Sindh office on July 22 to postpone the local body elections.
While addressing a press conference in Karachi, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Hafiz Naimur Rahman said that the Election Commission has postponed the second phase of local elections in Sindh, Jamaat-e-Islami condemned the process as a conspiracy against democracy.
Hafiz Naimur Rahman said that the Sindh government and MQM are afraid of the popularity of Jamaat-e-Islami, that’s why they have taken the route of escape along with the Election Commission.
He said that while the Sindh government was doing developmental work during the election campaign, even the Election Commission did not look into it, the Provincial Election Commission was an extension of the PPP, a position rejected by the High Court was approved by the Election Commission. Municipal elections should be held on time.
Hafiz Naeem also said, “Even though we complained to others, no notice was taken, now they are saying that rain is coming, the election has been postponed.”
Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami said, these fraudsters are cheating, now the people are angry, they will not tolerate such activities.
Hafiz Naeem warned the provincial government that Jamaat-e-Islami will stage a sit-in program outside the Sindh Election Commission office on July 22. Don’t you dare stop us from protesting. Our youth are very angry at this situation. The mayor will be from Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamaat-e-Islami will not let him escape.
Amir Jamaat-e-Islami said that the people of Karachi should continue their movement, the movement of Jamaat-e-Islami is a movement for the rights of Karachi.
