Ellen Pompeo is Increasing Her Role in Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 with More Episodes

Ellen Pompeo Upping Her Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Screen Time

Ellen Pompeo, the beloved actress known for her role as Dr. Meredith Grey on “Grey’s Anatomy,” is set to increase her screen time in the upcoming season 21. After a slight step back in season 20, Pompeo will be featured in at least seven episodes of the new season, with the potential for even more screen time as the season progresses to a total of 18 episodes, according to a report by Deadline.

The decision for Pompeo to increase her episode count comes as a surprise to fans, as many regular cast members on the show have agreed to reduce their on-camera appearances for the upcoming season in order to cut costs. While Pompeo hinted at reducing her role on the show in the past, she confirmed in September 2022 that she would have a reduced role for season 19.

Despite the reduction in her screen time, Pompeo’s portrayal of Meredith has always been integral to the show. Her character’s departure as a series regular in a February 2023 episode was emotional for fans, but Pompeo later returned for the season 19 finale to give an update on Meredith’s life and relationship with Nick, played by Scott Speedman.

Pompeo’s return to the show in the upcoming season is highly anticipated, and fans can expect to see more of her on their screens. Additionally, Pompeo remains an executive producer and narrator of the series, further solidifying her connection to “Grey’s Anatomy.”

With season 21 set to air on ABC this fall, fans of the long-running medical drama can look forward to seeing more of Ellen Pompeo’s iconic character Dr. Meredith Grey back in action on their screens.
