Drivers persist in illegally parking on shoulders at Orlando International Airport, despite increased police presence

Is the Illegal Parking Problem at Orlando International Airport Really Fixed?

Illegal parking continues to be a major issue at Orlando International Airport, despite increased enforcement efforts by authorities. News 6 first brought attention to the problem last November, showcasing numerous vehicles parked illegally on Jeff Fuqua Boulevard leading up to the terminals. In a recent press release, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) claimed that their more vigorous enforcement measures had made a significant impact, but is this really the case?

On a recent visit to the airport, News 6 discovered that several drivers were still seen waiting on the shoulders of Jeff Fuqua Boulevard, defying the regulations put in place by GOAA. Uber driver and business owner Scott Ellis even shared dashcam footage with News 6, captured just one night after the enforcement announcement. The video showed over 30 cars parked illegally on the boulevard, causing confusion and dangerous situations for passing traffic.

GOAA acknowledges the dangers of this illegal parking, stating that it not only poses a hazard to drivers but also obstructs traffic flow and causes congestion. The airport has warned that violators may receive citations or warnings and is considering additional measures such as cameras or loudspeakers to deter illegal parking.

In the meantime, GOAA reminds drivers that there are free, 24-hour options for legal parking at the North and South cell phone waiting lots, which also offer amenities like free Wi-Fi and flight information displays. Utilizing these lots instead of illegally parking can help ease congestion and ensure the safety of all travelers at the airport.
