US Democrats pressuring Biden to step aside for re-election bid: Report

US President Joe Biden Facing Pressure to Step Down from Key Donors

As US President Joe Biden continues his re-election campaign, he is facing mounting pressure from key donors to step aside and make way for a new Democratic leader. Top donors, including Abigail Disney and Reed Hastings, have threatened to withhold funding unless Biden relinquishes his position at the top of the ticket.

Abigail Disney, a prominent Democratic donor, expressed her concerns in an interview with CNBC, stating, “I intend to stop any contributions to the party unless and until they replace Biden at the top of the ticket. This is realism, not disrespect. Biden is a good man and has served his country admirably, but the stakes are far too high.”

Similarly, Reed Hastings, co-founder of Netflix and a major party contributor, called for Biden to step aside and allow a “vigorous Democratic leader” to take on Donald Trump in the upcoming election. Hastings and his wife have donated over $20 million to the party in recent years.

Even long-time supporters of Biden, such as Los Angeles developer Rick Caruso, have voiced their support for a change in leadership. Caruso, who co-hosted a fundraiser for Biden in December, stated, “In this critical time, in this vital election, stepping aside is the right and honorable thing for President Biden to do.”

The calls for Biden to drop out of the race have been growing, with five Democratic lawmakers already urging him to consider stepping down. House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries is set to lead a virtual meeting of senior Democrat representatives to discuss the best course of action, while Senator Mark Warner is also working to convene a similar forum in the Senate.

As the pressure mounts on Biden, the Democratic Party faces a crucial decision on how to move forward with the re-election campaign. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
