Chris Stapleton Thrills with ‘White Horse’ and ‘Mountains of My Mind’ on His Third SNL Appearance

On April 13, Chris Stapleton graced the stage of “Saturday Night Live” for the third time, captivating the audience with powerful renditions of “White Horse” and “Mountains of My Mind” from his fifth studio album, “Higher.”

Returning as the musical guest on SNL, hosted by Ryan Gosling, Chris Stapleton, the acclaimed 45-year-old country singer, delivered an unforgettable performance. Dressed in his trademark straw cowboy hat, Stapleton commenced with “White Horse,” a blues-infused track produced alongside his wife, Morgane Stapleton, who also supported with backup vocals and tambourine. This song, co-written with Dan Wilson of Semisonic, has garnered critical acclaim, securing Grammys for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance in February 2024.

The evening continued with “Mountains of My Mind,” a poignant piece that concludes his latest album. “Higher,” produced by Stapleton, his wife, and Dave Cobb at Nashville’s iconic RCA Studio A, showcases a blend of acoustic and electric guitar, bass, pedal steel, drums, synthesizer, tambourine, organ, and piano. This diverse musical arrangement propelled the album to debut at number three on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Chris Stapleton’s presence on SNL is not new; his last performance in 2018 with Sturgill Simpson left a lasting impression with renditions of “Midnight Train to Memphis” and “Hard Livin’” from his third album, “From a Room: Volume 2.” For fans unable to catch the live broadcast, SNL performances are available to stream on Peacock, where subscribers can also access a vast library of past episodes.

The memorable performances of “White Horse” and “Mountains of My Mind” on SNL further cement Chris Stapleton’s status as a powerhouse in country music, blending heartfelt lyrics with robust musical accompaniments.
