Children’s Hospital in Kyiv Hit by Russian Missile Strike

In a devastating attack, a children’s hospital in Kyiv, Ukraine, was hit by a wave of missile strikes launched by Russia. The Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital, the largest pediatric facility in Ukraine, suffered major damage during the blast, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, reported that thirty-six people were killed and 140 were injured in the strikes. While Russia denied targeting the hospital, Ukraine found remnants of a Russian cruise missile at the site.

Dr. Lesia Lysytsia, a doctor at the hospital, described the harrowing moment the missile struck, likening it to a scene from a movie with a blinding light and deafening sound. The hospital sustained significant damage, with up to 70% of the building affected.

Pictures from the scene showed young children, some with IV drips, being evacuated from the hospital. Kyiv’s mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, confirmed that two adults, including a doctor, lost their lives in the attack. Rescuers feared more individuals could be trapped under the rubble.

The hospital, known for cancer treatment and organ transplants, is currently in the process of evacuating patients to nearby facilities. Dr. Lysytsia mentioned that many patients are intubated and on ventilators, requiring special care during the evacuation.

The strike at the children’s hospital elicited global condemnation, with leaders from various nations denouncing Russia’s actions. Ukrainian allies called for stronger responses to the assault on civilian infrastructure, emphasizing the need to protect innocent lives amidst the ongoing conflict.

As the world watches the escalating crisis in Ukraine, the tragic events unfolding serve as a stark reminder of the human cost of war and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
