Chicago Cubs Roster Update: Taillon and Wisdom Return from Injury Ahead of Season Resurgence

Despite the disruption caused by today’s unexpected rainout, the Chicago Cubs have made significant changes to their roster. Shortly after announcing the game’s postponement, the team confirmed the activation of pitchers Jameson Taillon and infielder Patrick Wisdom from the injured list.

Jameson Taillon, initially set to start in Thursday night’s game, is now poised to possibly take the mound on Friday afternoon. After missing the entire Spring Training due to back issues, Taillon appears to be in good health. He has completed two rehab assignments with Triple-A Iowa, laying the groundwork for his season debut.

Taillon’s return is particularly noteworthy. Following a challenging start last year, he improved markedly in his final 16 appearances, achieving a 3.38 ERA and a 1.103 WHIP. The Cubs are optimistic about his potential impact this season as they look to bolster their pitching staff.

Alongside Taillon, Patrick Wisdom has also made a comeback from a back injury that limited his play during the Spring Training. Wisdom demonstrated his readiness during a rehab stint in Iowa, where he boasted a batting average of .407 and hit three home runs over nine games. His performance, though based on limited appearances, suggests he is prepared to contribute significantly to the Cubs’ lineup.

To accommodate the return of Taillon and Wisdom, the Cubs have made adjustments to their 26-man active roster. Miles Mastrobuoni has been optioned to Iowa following a series of performances that saw him struggle at the plate. Similarly, Hayden Wesneski, despite a strong recent outing in Arizona, has been sent down to Iowa but may return as the 27th man for the upcoming doubleheader on Saturday.

As the Cubs gear up for the next set of games, these roster moves are expected to inject new vitality into the team, signaling a positive shift as they advance through the season. The Cubs community and fans remain eager to see how these changes will translate into improved results on the field.
