Aaron Sorkin Throws Support Behind Kamala Harris After Biden Drops Out of 2024 Race

After current US President Joe Biden announced his decision to drop out of the 2024 race, award-winning writer Aaron Sorkin has thrown his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris. This comes just a day after Sorkin suggested in an op-ed that Mitt Romney should run.

In a recent op-ed published in The New York Times, Sorkin expressed his concerns over Biden’s campaign troubles, citing a disastrous debate performance and calls from Democratic Party colleagues and notable public figures for him to step down. Sorkin proposed an alternative solution, suggesting that the Democrats nominate Romney at their convention next month.

However, in a statement issued today via former West Wing colleague Joshua Melina, Sorkin made a U-turn on his previous stance, declaring, “Harris for America!” This shift in support was later confirmed by a spokesperson for Sorkin.

Sorkin, known for his work on The West Wing and The Social Network, has also teased a sequel to the latter film focusing on the January 6 riots, partly blaming Facebook for the events. Meanwhile, Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the race yesterday, emphasizing his commitment to fulfilling his duties as president.

In light of Biden’s exit, he has offered his full support and endorsement for Harris to be the next Democratic presidential candidate. Close aides reportedly shared dismal polling numbers for Biden’s candidacy in major US cities, prompting his ultimate decision.

Notable figures like Barbra Streisand have praised Biden for his accomplishments during his term, with the singer stating that he will go down in history for upholding democracy. As the Democratic Party looks ahead to the 2024 election, all eyes are now on Harris as a potential frontrunner with Sorkin’s backing.
